DS42 Oak Dark in a house in the Stockholm archipelago

Surrounded by pine forests, weathered granite and the ever-changing waters of the Baltic Sea, this architect-designed retreat was conceived as a quiet refuge from the pace of the city. Built almost entirely from timber, the house is characterised by a restrained palette of pale spruce, natural stone, lime plaster and linen. Large windows frame the surrounding landscape, allowing light, shadows and the changing seasons to become an integral part of the architecture. Within this setting, the DS42 step ladder in Oak Dark becomes a natural extension of the home itself.

Designed to remain visible. Whether hanging from its dedicated wall mount, standing freely in its folded position or resting naturally against a wall, the DS42 is designed to remain within reach and become a natural part of the interior.

A versatile object for everyday life. With its slim profile and carefully balanced proportions, the DS42 moves effortlessly between rooms while remaining close at hand.

Solid oak, shaped by hand. The dark-pigmented hardwax oil highlights the natural grain of the oak while allowing the material to retain its warmth and character.

A contrast between light and dark

Throughout the house, pale timber surfaces reflect the changing daylight and create a calm, almost monastic atmosphere. Against this backdrop, the deep, warm tone of the dark-stained oak introduces contrast and depth. The ladder's sculptural form echoes the clean architectural lines of the house, while the solid brass details add warmth and refinement. Rather than being hidden away, the ladder is allowed to remain visible as a permanent part of the interior.

Crafted to age gracefully

Finished with dark-pigmented hardwax oil, the solid oak develops an increasingly rich character over time. The natural grain of the wood remains visible beneath the surface, creating subtle variations in tone that shift throughout the day as the light changes. Like the surrounding landscape, the material is intended to mature gracefully over the years.
